Getting here

The bad road is why the forest is quiet.

We're 5.8 km from Puerto Jiménez, deep enough in the jungle that the last stretch is gravel. That track is what keeps the forest quiet and the animals close — and if you'd rather not drive it, a taxi from town is $25 each way.

Step by step

From town to your terrace.

By air. Domestic flights from San José (SJO) land at the Puerto Jiménez airstrip in under an hour. Tell us your flight and we'll have a taxi waiting for you at the strip.

By road. From Puerto Jiménez take Route 245 towards Carate. After crossing the first bridge, turn right onto the gravel road and follow it — and the Maze Lodge signs — to our gate. Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze may tell you you've arrived a little before you have; don't be deterred, keep going.

The road. It can be an adventure in itself. Depending on its condition a high-clearance 4x4 is usually needed. The rough surface is deliberate: it keeps speeds low and disturbance to the wildlife minimal, and we wouldn't want it any other way.

No car? We work with a taxi firm in Puerto Jiménez — the same drivers each time, they know this road, and they speak Spanish and English. It's $25 each way. Call or WhatsApp them on +506 8378 5961, or just tell us and we'll book it for you.

Food on the way. Each lodge has a kitchenette with fridge, stove, coffee machine and a grill on the terrace. Bring groceries from town — or order from the restaurants and supermarkets that deliver.
